Professor Andy Berglund Named Inaugural Keith Hynes Endowed Professor in STEM at UAlbany

Andy Berglund, director of the University at Albany's RNA Institute and a professor of biological sciences, has been named the first recipient of the Keith Hynes Endowed Professorship in STEM. The professorship, established through a gift from UAlbany alumnus and donor Keith Hynes '74, recognizes outstanding faculty in STEM fields and supports innovative research and student engagement.

Dr. Berglund is internationally recognized for his research on RNA-based therapeutics particularly for treating repeat expansion disorders such as myotonic dystrophy. He also leads outreach programs and mentors emerging scientists, having guided over 100 students and postdocs. The endowed professorship will support programs like the RNA Institute's Summer Bioinformatics Program and other student-focused research initiatives.
