Co-op: 8 months

Department: Quality Control-Analytical Sciences in Bioassay Development, Rensselaer, NY.

Project focus: Assay development, optimization and execution, following cGMP RNA labeling protocols and analysis of mRNAs to determine best vaccine candidates

Skills gained: Optimization of methodology for Bioassay Development following cGMP, Optimization of cell expansion and cell banking procedures, communication and presentation skills. Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Laboratory Practices, and QC compliance.

Co-op: 16 weeks

Department: Quality Control Analytical and Quality Control Development, Rensselaer, NY.

Project focus: Characterization of CRISPR-SAM induced HEK cells and optimization of wet lab protocols and bioinformatic pipelines for their use in library preparations and bioinformatic analysis in future assays. 

Skills gained: Bioinformatics and machine learning, Python programming, Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Laboratory Practices, and QC compliance.

Internship: 8 months

Department: Quality Control-Analytical Sciences in Bioassay Development, Rensselaer, NY.

Project focus: Live cell imager-based bioassay development, potency assay development for candidate drugs, cell growth optimization for testing assays

Internship: 8 months

Department: Quality Control-Analytical Sciences in Bioassay Development, Rensselaer, NY.

Project focus: Assay development for reference standards on new instrumentation and software following cGMP

Department: Quality Control-Analytical Sciences in Chemistry Development, Rensselaer, NY.

Project focus: : Organic synthesis, set up and development of testing protocols for a new MALS system with multi-angle light scattering

Skills gained: Column chromatography, MALS system operation and optimization for detecting protein aggregation, biochemistry-related software such as Vision and Astra, troubleshooting new technology. Teamwork across different locations within the company. Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Laboratory Practices, and QC compliance.

Internship: On-going collaboration 

Department: Capital Corals, Inc., NY.

Project focus: Screening of coral extracts and their effects on toxic RNA repeats 

Skills gained: : Use of genomic and biochemical approaches to analyze the treatment of patient cell lines of human disease using compounds found in coral extracts to identify to screen for responses.

Internship: 3 months 

Department: Capital Corals, Inc., NY.

Project focus: Screening of coral extracts and their effects on toxic RNA repeats

Project focus: Optimized thresholds for next-generation sequencing (NGS) viral detection.

Skills gained: Bioinformatics and machine learning, Python programming, advanced statistical methods, Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Laboratory Practices, and QC compliance.

Internship: 10 weeks

Department: Industrial Operations and Product Supply (IOPS) in Rensselaer, NY

Project focus: Studying the effects of stress on Regeneron products.

Skills gained: Experience with robotic systems, time management, prioritizing milestones, presenting scientific results to team and department heads, and networking at companywide events. 

Internship: 12 weeks

Department: mRNA research and development in Pearl River, NY.

Project focus: Optimizing RNA labeling protocols and analysis of mRNAs to determine best vaccine candidates. 

Skills gained: Experience with quality control, nanopore sequencing, RNA biology, RNA labeling, in vitro transcription, standard operating procedures, assay development, teamwork, and project management in an industry setting.

Co-op: 9 months

Skills gained: Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography and Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry

Internship: 10 months
