On Feb 14, the New York Myotonic Dystrophy Center (NYDMC) brought together researchers from across the country for a symposium focused on newborn screening for myotonic dystrophy and advancing sequencing techniques to gain a deeper understanding of the disease. Attendees included scientists, clinicians, and industry representatives involved in newborn screening and the development of therapeutics for DM. The event, co-organized with Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation (MDF), focused on the current state of newborn screening and DM diagnoses as well as the exciting progress towards approval of targeted therapeutics for DM. In a closed door session, experts shared their valuable insights on how to effectively collaborate on advancing the diagnoses of DM and implementation of screening for DM during pregnancy.
