Dr. Max Royzen (Associate Professor in the department of Chemistry and a faculty member of the RNA Institute) and Shasqi, a biotech company are collaborating for about a decade and have developed a drug delivery platform called "Click Activated Protodrugs Against Cancer" (CAPAC) that uses 'click' chemistry to activate cancer drugs directly at tumor sites, minimizing harm to healthy tissues. This innovative approach is now in clinical trials, which has shown promise in treating sarcoma and is expanding to other cancers like lung and gastric and aims to improve cancer treatment efficacy while reducing side effects. The work is supported by Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant, awarded by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, part of the NIH.
